Do your part to help better manage our world's natural resources. Follow the steps listed bellow and you will be improving the enviromental by the following 3R's...Reduce,Reuse, and Recycle.


Be wise consumer and buy only what you need. Check with your paint consultant for instructions on how to determine the correct volume of paint required for your project. When you purchase the right volume of paint, it elieminates the need to store or dispose/recycle paint when the project is finished, and it might even save you money. When your painting project is complete, take a look in the can, if there is only a small quantity of paint left, use it up. Paint out the last inch or two of paint in the bottom of the can.


If your project is complete and you still have a fair amount of paint leftover, be sure to correctly store the paint. Proper paint storage will eliminate safety concerns and keep your paint fresh for touch-ups or future projects. For best results, cover the opening of the paint with plastic wrap and securely seal the lid. When you are sure the lid is leakproof, turn the can upside down and store it in a place with a moderate room temperature to avoid freezing. Be sure to choose a safe location that is out of the reach of children and pets.


Now that you have safely stored your leftover paint, don't forget about it. Leftover paint can be used for touch-ups or smaller projects and lighter colors can be retinted for another paint project. Record the room name on the lid for future touch-ups. You can blend and mix smaller quantities of latex paint to use as a base coat on larger jobs. Perhaps, you know a neighbor or relative who could use your leftover paint; now, that's being enviromental friendly!


If you cant't make use of the paint yourself, donate your useable leftover paint to a worthwhile community association, theatre company, church group or other local organizations that may be in need of good paint. Perhaps, your community offers a paint exchange event or a special paint collection program. Many communities collect paint for reuse, recycling or as a last, proper disposal through local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection programs. Check the "Earth 911" Paint Wise web portal at or call 1-800-clean-up, to learn about paint reuse, recycling and HHW collection programs that are available in your community.


If there is not a leftover paint collection program available in your area, you may need to dispose of leftover latex paint yourself. Air-drying of liquid alkyd or oil based paint is not considered safe. In regions that allow it, let your latex paint air dry in a safe location away from the children and pets. A small amount of paint, less than 1/2 inch, in the bottom of the paint can is easily dried out by living the lid off. Once the paint is hard, discard the paint can with the lid off, preferably in a metal recycling is not available or the paint container is plastic, dispose of the container in the garbage, larger volumes of latex paint can be dried in a box with absorbent material such as shredded paper or kitty litter. Recycle the empty can with the lid off and dispose of the dried out latex paint as garbage. If the paint in the can is solidified all the way through, it may be disposed of as garbage with the lid off to prevent the build of pressure in the can.

Modern Masters-Metal Effects Copper with Green Patina system

Metal Effects water based Copper Metallic Paint contains real copper particles. This paint will tarnish naturally over time and when exposed to the elements. Metal Effects Green Patina Aging Solution, when used in combination with Metal Effects Copper Metallic Paint, creates a beautiful authentic green patina.

Product Description:
Metal Effects Copper Metallic Paint is a water-based modified acrylic paint formulated with real copper particles. It will oxidize naturally over time and when exposed to the elements. Metal Effects Patina Aging Solutions will speed up the oxidation process to create a beautiful, authentic, green patina on any paintable surface. Metal Effects Copper Metallic Paint can be brush, roll, or spray applied with an HVLP sprayer. It is ideal for use on properly prepared metal, wood, plaster, canvas, paper, or plastic surfaces. Popular applications include moldings, trim, columns, doors, furniture, rain gutters, railings, lamps, vases, and planters.

Surface Preparation:
All surfaces should be sound, clean, and dry prior to priming. Remove all loose, peeling paint. Scuff sand all glossy surfaces. Before applying Metal Effects Copper Metallic Paint, the previously coated surface must be completely clean, dry, and fully cured. If painting over metal, wood, alkaline, any other reactive surface, or if the type of surface is unknown, use Metal Effects Acid Blocking Primer (AM203) to properly prime and seal the surface. The Acid Blocking Primer is especially formulated to block out alkali salts, tannins, acid salts, or other unwanted contaminates from ‘bleeding through’ to the Metal Effects Metallic Paint film. If unsure of the substrate, test a sample area to ensure the desired results.

Step 1: Properly prime the surface with two coats of Metal Effects Acid Blocking Primer (AM203) and allow to fully dry. Wait at least ½ hour between primer coats. Apply Metal Effects Acid Blocking Primer with a brush or roller suitable for waterbased primers. Metal Effects Acid Blocking Acrylic Primer is especially formulated for use with the Metal Effects Metallic Paints. Do not use any other primer. Two coats of primer are best, especially over metal or alkaline surfaces.
Step 2: After the primer has fully cured, the surface is ready for a base coat of Metal Effects Copper Metallic paint. Apply using a brush, roller, or an HVLP spray gun. To spray add up to 20oz./600ml of water per gallon of paint. For brushing, use a highquality brush made for water-based paints. Allow this first coat to dry for approximately ½ hour.
Step 3: In the same manner, apply a second coat of Metal Effects Copper Metallic paint. The Metal Effects™ Green Patina Aging Solution should be applied while this second coat is wet (within approximately five (5) minutes). Apply the Green Patina Aging Solution with a brush, sea sponge, spray bottle, or attach the spritzer cap directly to the 4 or 16 ounce Patina bottles. If an evenly patinaed surface is desired, stipple the wet surface with a brush or block stippler to evenly distribute the Green Patina Aging Solution. In approximately 30 to 40 minutes, a true green patina will appear. Cold temperatures or high humidities will prolong the patina oxidation process and dry time.
Step 4 (Optional): In most applications, interior or exterior, a protective sealer is not necessary. However, if the surface is in a high traffic area or is likely to be handled repeatedly, the surface should be protected with Metal Effects Permacoat Patina Sealer. Note: DO NOT USE OTHER SEALERS OR VARNISHES. Permacoat can be applied by brush, roller, or HVLP spray gun. Surfaces must be completely dry prior to top coating. Begin by adding 4 oz./ 118 ml water to 4 oz./118 ml of Permacoat and stir well. Apply two coats; the second coat can be applied within ½ hour. Let the surface dry for at least one hour before handling. Note: If maximum protection from the harmful effects of UV light and weathering is required, apply MasterClear Polyurethane/Acrylic Interior/Exterior Topcoat protective overcoat on top of the Permacoat. Do not apply MasterClear directly onto the patinaed finish. This can alter the color of the patina.


ME149, 1 gallon/3.78 liters will cover approximately 300 sq. feet/28.8 sq. meters.

Film Properties:
ME149: Drying time at 70°F and 50%RH: Re-coat time is in approximately ½ hour. Dry time is in approximately one hour. Full cure is in approximately 24 hours. Lower temperature and higher humidity will lengthen the dry and cure times. VOC: ME149 contains less than 150 grams/liter VOC. PA901 contains no VOC.

Close tightly all cans when not in use. Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. If frozen, allow to completely thaw and come to room temperature before use.

Clean Up:
Clean brushes, rollers, tools, and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately after use.

HAMMERITE Galvanized and Aluminum Primer dries to touch in 1-2 hours @ 60ºF (16ºC). Allow primer to dry 24 hours before applying finish coat. HAMMERITE aesthetic value and rust protection properties make a durable coating for exterior applications on residential and commercial projects. Some suggested uses are:
1. Exterior doors, mail boxes, wrought iron, ventilation pipes/fittings. Wheel barrows, swing sets, snow blowers, lawn mowers, fences, storage sheds, etc
2. Playground equipment, recreation vehicles, boat trailers, etc.
3. Architectural structures, tank farms, machinery, theme parks, transportation equipment, above water marine applications, etc.
4. Frames, wheels, bumpers, trailer hitches, under car and truck carriages, trunk areas, floor trays, etc.

Remove all loose rust, paint and millscale. This can be achieved by scraping, sanding or wire brushing. Remove all dirt, oil, grease, salt contamination from ocean or street salt, and mildew, using an approved cleaner, fresh water and a commercial mildew remover. Rinse surface thoroughly and let dry before continuing. Smooth or hard, slick surfaces must be deglossed or abraded by sanding or grit blasting. A new or clean metal surface that is very smooth and/or glossy, or non-porous MUST be sanded with a minimum 80 grit sandpaper. DO NOT use any rust converter, or any other acid or conversion type product to clean or prepare a rusted surface before applying a Hammerite coating. Aluminum and galvanized
surfaces require a prime coating of HAMMERITE Galvanized and Aluminum Primer.
Professional painting practice required previously painted or shop primed surfaces must be "patch" tested for compatibility. Apply HAMMERITE to a small area and expose for 72 hours minimum and check for adhesion and any signs of lifting or cracking, etc.

Mix the paint coating thoroughly before and stir during application. Ideal application temperature is between 60ºF and 80ºF
Always maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks and avoid over brushing and/or rolling. A ¼” mohair roller or synthetic bristle brush is recommended for flat surfaces. Brush irregular surfaces. Apply thickly and quickly. Do not overwork coating. Ensure corners, edges and heavily pitted areas are adequately coated. 2-3 coat minimum to achieve a 4-mil dry thickness.
Apply two or more coats as needed to achieve the 4-mil dry film thickness required for maximum rust and substrate protection. Recoat after each coat has dried to touch (30 to 45 minutes) additional coats would be applied the same (30 to 45 minutes between coats). All Hammered coatings must be applied within 4 hours or after 14 days of drying. All Smooth coatings must be applied within 4 hours or after 72 hours of drying. Dries to handle in 90 minutes at 77ºF (21ºC) 50% Relative Humidity.
INFORMATION BELOW IS FOR GUIDELINE USE ONLY. Before operating any spray system, review the technical manual for detailed information needed to properly operate and maintain the equipment.
a) Conventional Air Spray:
Pot Pressure: 15-20 p.s.i.
Atomizing pressure: 25-35 p.s.i.
Nozzle size: 70-80 thousandths
Apply 3-4 coats allowing each coat to set 30-45 minutes at 60ºF (16ºC) before application of the next coat to prevent sags. Final coat must be wet enough to flow to a uniform glossy finish.
b) Airless Spray:
Atomizing pressure: 1800-2600 p.s.i.
Tip Size: 17-21
Apply 3-4 coats to a minimum dry film thickness of 4 mils for rust protection. Allow each coat to set 30-45 minutes at 60ºF (16ºC) before application of the next coat to avoid sagging. Final coat must be wet enough to provide a uniform glossy finish.

Read and follow all application and precautionary information. Shake can for two or three minutes after activating ball and occasionally during use. Spray light, even coats, holding the container upright approximately 8” to 12” from surface being painted. The aerosol Hammered Metallic Finish is not as pronounced as the paint from the quart and/or gallon containers. This is due to the thinning of the
product so the propellant will push it out through the siphon tube and spray tip orifice. Three to five coats will be required to eliminate any pinholes and thin spots to achieve the 4 mil dry thickness required to keep moisture from penetrating the coating. The final coating must be thick enough to flow to a smooth even finish with a well-defined pattern, but not heavy enough to run. Make sure all corners, edges and heavily pitted areas are adequately coated. All coatings can be applied as soon as the previous coating is dry to touch, about 15 minutes. All coatings must be applied within one hour or after 10 days cure time. After use, invert container (turn upside down) and spray to clear valve of the paint coating.

Approximately 200 square feet per gallon depending on the method of application, porosity and texture of the surface and to achieve a 4 mil dry film thickness.

Clean all tools and equipment after use with HAMMERITE CLEANER AND THINNER, Xylene or Lacquer Thinner. Close container when not in use. Dispose of empty container and/or unused portion of paint in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.

Solids/Volume: HAMMERITE is a high solid, low VOC coating. Approximately 60% solids dependent on color.
Dry To Touch: Approximately 30 minutes; dry to handle: 2-4 hours at 60-80ºF (16-27ºC). 50% Relative Humidity.
Hard Dry: 2 weeks for Hammered and 72 hours for Smooth.
Impact Resistance: Good
Adhesion: Excellent to most properly prepared surfaces. Some surfaces may require a primer or special preparation. The Hammerite can withstand intermittent temperatures up to 200ºF (93ºC) maximum without peeling. Light colors may undergo color changes when subjected to high temperatures.
Adhesion Problems (Peeling):
Too thin a film coating which can be permeable by moisture. Substrate not cleaned and prepped thoroughly. Smooth substrate, which has not been abraded, (sanded or scuffed) sufficiently. Sand with 80- grit sandpaper and recoat. Incompatible primer or a conversion coating used (Ospho, Naval Jelly, etc.)
Aerosol Plugged:
Cans must be inverted and sprayed until no paint comes out of the spray tip to clear the tube and tip of the paint after use. Before use, shake cans vigorously for at least three minutes after mixing ball moves freely, and occasionally during use. A 4-mil/dry thickness is a must for all applications. This will consist of three (3) to five-(5) coats wet aerosol application for Hammered or Smooth finish.
